Palace Gate

Each palace area in the old palace had its own entrance gate with careful guarding by soldiers to ensure the safety of the king and the royal family. Each of these palace gates is also designed as a decorative work highlighting the majesty and magnificence of the palaces.

In the ancient citadel in Hanoi, there are still eight such gates. These archways together with a few remaining clusters of relics on the ground of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long will help determine more accurately the coordinates of the palace areas and the innermost wall of the protective rampart system.
